I have a 98 XJ how do I tell which transfer case I have and there any how to threads on servicing them? Yes I have searched but not finding alot. My build sheet states this DHNS Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System. Thanks

Haha.. You have a 231. The 242 has the option for part of full time 4wd. Are you asking if there's info on servicing one? If you are then it's pretty simple- change fluid. If your having issues with it, post specific info. There's lots of pretty badass upgrades for a 231.

VT is right, but I'll add this in anyways. There should be a piece of stamped metal on the rear-facing side of the transfer case, on mine it's round. That'll tell you the model and some other stuff.

Thanks guys.....I'm not having any problems with just wanna service it It has 216000 on it and I'm sure the PO never did....just finished up diff cover gaskets today...recently did Rad, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gasket, calipers, rotors, pads, just to name a few....lol so what are the upgrades for the 231 and what are the benefits.

SYE (Slip Yoke Eliminator) is a common one, but you don't have to worry about that unless you have a large lift, i think at 4.5 and above you need to consider it.

Don't fix what ain't broke. If its working fine, then continue to let it do so. Check the fluid, but sometimes messing with it isn't necessary.
