I found a 1990 xj for sale right next to my house but the guy said it had auto tranny problems....

He says when driving at high way speeds it will down shift for no reason.

Any one ever have this happen or know what could possibly cause this???

x2 on TPS..based on some info bluexj posted on another threads TPS would cause this issue..

 

TPS probably need replacing and calibration.
There is a sticky on the procedure so my advice is if it is in your price range then buy it (assuming everything else is good to go) This can be fixed for less than $100 including the tools needed to fix it.
If you can't find the sticky then send me a PM and I will find it and post up a link.

you guys just made my day this jeep is in GOOD condition w 160,000 miles and he said he would let it go for 600 bucks bens it needs a new tranny (lol).

The best part is it did not even have a for sale sign on it, me and my buddy were drivin by and it had no plates on it so we swung in and asked if he wanted to sell it he said YEA!!! Block and a half from my house!!!!!!

 

Just dont you or you buddys tip your hand and let him know YOU know what probley wrong with it! Good luck!

if you do,, have it a few days "mising" so that you said it went to a shop to get fixed.. something like that, bc then the guy will know you got yourself a spr deal.. at his expences.. LOL
