Hey guys just recently had the transmission replaced in my 96 xj used one out of a 98 the mechanic put it in but now he said its flying through gears now an by the time he pulls out of his driveway its already in overdrive he checked all the sensors an even the computer any idea wat it could be

Second vote for TV Cable adjustment.
An AW4 is an AW4 is an AW4. A bad solenoid will only affect two gears.
Throttle valve cable is what controls shift points.
If his "mechanic" doesnt know how to adjust a TV cable, I highly doubt hes intelligent enough to swap solenoids during a trans swap....

The solenoids are located on the valve body. The throttle valve cable runs from the throttle body to the transmission. You can search the forums here and someone has a write up for correctly adjusting it.
Pretty simple, just under the hood, dont even have to get under it.

Engine: 4.0L 6Cyl, K&N, 62mm TB, Electric Fans, D Neon Injectors, Head gasket needing replaced.
