What is this, whats it for, and do I need to replace it and if so where is the cheapest source

Its basically a big vacuum bulb is what it looks like.

It's the vacuum ball. Some will say you do and don't need it. Try a local junk yard or eBay. Or in the classifieds here

yeah that's a vacuum bulb. go to your local junkyard and find another renix xj to get it from. the design changed for HO motors so make sure it's from a renix 4.0

You can actually use any type of vacuum ball as long as you have the same amount of connections that you original one had.

I would guess its a vacuum diaphragm for your cruise control and ****. That should be all its for I would think.

my cruise control and directional air on the heater were both messed up without it on my 96. might as well get one. its less than 20 bucks to help your rig run better. don't be cheap haha

What does it do though? Lol I can't believe it would be just cruise or heat. I started it and it seems the same.

its for your hvac. you need one.

Stores engine vacuum so your heater components under the dash will work while under a load. Cruise, too, if you have it.

You need that? I almost got rid of mne about a year ago when I built my bumper. I relocated it somewhere and hope to never see it again. But now I'm going to look at it and make sure its all connected well. haha.
