if that is what you are tring to do take the carriers and ring and oinion out of tj axles bring all races and shims a decent mechanic should be able to help you out and you still come out ahead i just did mine myself not a first timer job i got 410 out of 86xj 4 banger for 100 bucks

still has the same bolt pattern i belive. im new to cherokees iv been working on putting a 8.8 into my tj and they have the same bolt pattern. but if your gonna wheel i wouldnt beef up the wimpy stock rearend. but if its just for highway and stuff just beef it up.

as long as there both lp or hp front and dana 35s with same bolt pattern they will fit swap ring pinion and carriers

A TJ has a LP and a '96 XJ has a HP...

That is why I said the front gears won't swap...

You can't swap ring, pinion, or carriers because they are a different pattern...hence the LP and HP.

The rear doesn't matter.

Its the same amount of work when your all done between cutting and welding for the 8.8 or the tj axle,in the rear end.

go with the 8.8 i broke my carrier twice and spider gears one the 35 are dainty
