Default Timing chain to oil pan gasket "Q"

So I was installing the oil pan using the new one pc gasket. I had also ordered the timing chain cover gasket set. That set comes with the cover gasket, HB seal, and the gasket that goes between the TC cover and the oil pan. From the directions it looks like that last gasket is used when one replaces just the TC cover. You cut off the old OP gasket and use the new part. Well... since both mine were new and going on at the same time I just deleted the gasket that was provided with the set and let the new OP gasket do its thing.
Is this correct?
I didn't need to use both somehow did I??

On a side note, I noticed there is a plug on the exhaust pipe just down from where it bolts to the manifold. Looks like there should be an O2 sensor there... should there be? All it has is a bolt sealing the hole.

Yup. I got the one-piece Felpro OP gasket and a new TC set. I didn't want to cut the good OP gasket so I just used it instead of the lower TC gasket. Hasn't marked her territory since.

Don't tell anybody but I once re-used a one piece oil pan gasket from an engine with 175,000 miles and it doesn't leak. Used no RTV either.

Is there one installed anywhere before the cat?

I'm guessing the previous installer didn't use RTV either.
Seems I always get the ones installed with some proprietary combination of Gorilla Glue, liquid nails and JB weld or something. I'm surprised nobody's welded the pan right to the block yet.

Default no welding for me

I don't know yet but I will check today. I only just noticed it as I was tightening the pan bolts. Wouldn't surprise me if one of the previous owners "fixed" it by plugging it and then passing it along to someone else. I can imagine that person trying to figure out why it ran like crap, changing a bunch of parts but never catching that one. Someone put a screamin' demon coil and DUI live wires on it pretty recently.

Thanks for the input about the pan gasket, so glad I don't have to pull it back off! I did use a little rtv at the corners where the RMS is and the front before it drops into the smiley. Hope it doesn't leak. *crosses fingers*

Do not cut the oil pan gasket!

The timing gasket comes with a little rubber gasket with spike like tips on it....discard that (i'm not sure why it came with one).
