Default tie rod and drag link help

ok so im replacing the bushings int the driverside tie rod end and the passenger side drag link end, both where they are closest to the tires, so i get the bolts off and replace the bushings then i go to put the castle nits back on and they will only go on a little bit then stop and wont go any more, i think the studs are messed up some how, so im thinking bout ordering a new driverside tierod end, but what about the drag link end can i replace it some how wthout having to buy a whole new assembly?????

Dude, I would like to help, but I don't have any idea what you mean by bushings. The steering knuckles don't have bushings. Did you put the tie rod ends back in the large side of the hole?

Are u sure you got the right ends? Metric thread? get the right nuts.
If the thread is shorter add some washers under the nuts.

The drag link is replacable in 3 seperate pieces. The outer end from the steering knuckle to the adjuster sleeve, the adjuster sleeve, and the inner end that connects to the pitman arm.

When you replace the drag link and the pitman arm tie rod they come with new nuts and cotter pins.

Then if you don't want to buy a new one then the JY is your next stop.

The drag link is one long piece from the knuckle to the adjusting sleeve up by the pitman arm. There is no way to replace just the outer end. So it's replace the whole thing or nothing at all.

If you want to do an upgrade while you have the steering apart, then pick up the drivers side tie rod and ends for a V8 ZJ to replace the wimpy stock unit on the XJ. The stock piece is a thin wall hollow tube that is prone to bending with oversized tires. The V8 ZJ tie rod is a solid unit with alot more strength.
