Is there a definitive guide to diagnosing the AW4?
I'm having problems with my trans, there a zillion threads out there and it's getting confusing. Is there a set of steps I should work my way through or are there too many variables to make that sort of thing into a list?
For the record.
When cold, it works pretty well. Maybe a little slip pulling away in D.
When warmed up:
No "creep" forward when I release the brake.
No clunk as I put it into D (it still does it for R)
Pulling away from a junction is REALLY slow, lots of revs and very little progress in D
If I shift to 2, we're off like normal even from stopped.
Reverse is fine.
No Kickdown anymore, but it will shift normally up and down once we're rolling and the torque converter will lockup.
I have done the following
Replaced fluid twice and filter once in the last year, and before the issue started. It was changing like a champ after the second fluid change.
Retensioned the stop on the kickdown cable.
Checked the fluid for condition (nice and red) and level (if anything, a little high).
err, that's it.
I'd like to work out some rational diagnostic steps before I load the parts cannon!

Morat, this is probably your best bet and well worth the money to have around:
http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/1...ce_manual.html
And, there is this:

While it's not strictly for diagnostics, it does have some good technical data within the thread and well worth referencing.

It looks like Cruiser is on the money, again.
It worked perfectly yesterday - but only with the stereo off. Grounds time again! (to start with)
