Default Is there a Buyers Guide for the XJ in the forum?

I tried searching but didn't see anything. But here is my question?

What would be considered high mileage for the XJ, in terms of engine life, transmission, Transfer case and axles?

What about rust it seem it's a issue but what areas should I really be looking at? What areas usually rust?

dont know if there is one but the 4.0 I6 engine lasts forever and takes a lot of abuse, my last jeep had 277k miles and ran beautifully... the 91 and older models came with a vacume disconnect from axle (try to stay away from that), also for the rear axle stay away from the dana 35 (try to find one with a 8.25, you can tell by the bottom being flat or not. the 8.25 is flat and the dana 35 is round). if you are looking for more off roading the 231 is a good transfercase but the more rare ones are the 242 because it has a full time 4by and part time but depents on the persons opinion.

As far as the vacuum disconnect, there is a modification you can do which will do away with the vacuum disconnect,to where when you want 4wd,all ya gotta do is pull your lever and go. No need to wait for the vacuum to slide everything in place. Haven't done the mod myself but am planning on doing it. If you have questions about it,contact me and ill give you the scoop on it.
