Filter/Regulator 97 GC 4.0, Mopar #5210053 - definitive answer

When I was looking into what was causing fluctuating fuel pressure, I found threads where there was uncertainty about the little canister on top of the fuel pump module which some sources describe as the regulator and others as the filter, and maybe some call it a combo. That is what it is. Here is a pic of the cut open Mopar p/n 5210053 I took out of my 97 with ~165k at that time, I think.
The filter is glued to the top of the housing, and there is a bottom metal plate glued to it. The filter tore apart when I pried the bottom plate. The disc with the O-ring is the diaphragm of the valve. Around where the spring is, there is a folded-over lip which retains the diaphragm down against the top of the spring. You can see part of that lip pried up.
