Default rebuilding a 1996 Engine

It has sat for about three years untouched but assembled. , it only had about 100k miles when it was put in the jeep. Planning on a full gasket set and timing chain, I really do not have the cash to do a full rebuild and take it to a machine shop unfortunately. I recently wrecked my 90 cherokee and just got married in sept so money is tight.

Yeah, when you're married, money always seems to be in short supply. Even more so when you start vacuuming Fruit-Loops out of your jeep every week, if you get my point!

JMHO, but why not fire it up and see what happens? 100K is not a lot of miles on a jeep, especially if this is a 4.0. The most that could happen is you find a few oil leaks. Once you know you've get a good running motor, then you can start throwing money at it, LMAO!

There is one thing I WOULD do, however. Drop the fuel tank and clean it out. It probably has a lot of stale, varnished fuel in it that shouldn't be run thru the injectors. Also, leave the spark plugs out and crank it over until you get oil pressure to make sure it won't start with dry bearings.

As my Grandpa used to say, "Don't put new shoes on a horse with bad teeth!"
