hey all. I have an 88 xj that doesnt seem to be getting hot enuf. When I first installed my gauges (oil, temp, batt) It was heating up like normal. The last 2 weeks it never gets above 170*. I have redone the WHOLE cooling system.. Does any1 know why? I just got my heater working today and it doesnt seem to be getting as warm as it should. Thanx for your help in advance

 

thermostat stuck open??? or two low of degree thermostat....

 

dont think so tstat is 2 weeks old and is the proper 1. 195*

 

I have replaced rad. coolant bottle tstat and housing hoses heater control on the heater line. If it had something to do with the cooling system it has been replaced except for the heater core but that is a very near future replacement

 

cooler weather will lower operating tems!!!!!! wher you live and what temps have been there

 

was still from 75-90+ up till 2 days ago. then the rain came lol. im in oregon

 

i vote on thermostat issue then

 

good thing for spares. i will change with the other new 1 tomorrow as soon as i get another gasket.. thanx again

 

Always confirm a suspicious operating temperature with an infrared point and shoot thermometer pointed directly at the thermostat housing.

There can be inaccuracy between the coolant temp sending unit and your dash gauge. Not uncommon at all.
