Heres another option you install a sensor in second hole in housing and extend wire to it...http://hescosc.com/shop.asp?action=d...2#.UdyDEHLD_nF

Looks simple. Is that the only option? I'm guessing since there's no place for it that would be the only option is to add it. But then my question is even if the motor was changed why doesn't it have a spot for a temp sensor? Don't the newer motors have temp gauges?

You can drill and tap the housing you have splice into a hose and install a t im just more into bolt on tried and true methods...newer xj gauge is run off the front sensor thru ecm yours is wired different . Not sure if any ones ever tried tapping into the wireing from front sensor with back wire.Im in no way saying to do it just had a brain fart.

All seem like good options. Ill have to see if maybe I can gather up all the parts from the junk yard. I'm sure I can find everything there.

Quick question..You (The original poster) said you had replaced your instrument cluster.. Did the temp gauge EVER work since you've had the Jeep or did it stop working at some recent point?

I just got it like 2 weeks ago. My buddy had it before me and it never worked for him either. We found out it doesn't have the temp sensor for the gauge bc the motor must have been replaced. I tested the gauge it works. I just hooked some power to the sensor wire and the needle moved. So now its getting the temp sensor and putting it in a hose or buying the high flow housing.

I'm still skeptical. I'd like to see a nice clear close up of the back corner of the engine right in the area the sensor is suppose to be. With no wiring blocking the view. It seems like if someone swapped out the engone there would still have been a hole for this sensor on another 4.0 block. Maybe someone broke the sensor and put a bolt in the hole in place of it?

No, "free" can probably explain it to you. Other blocks run off one sensor not too. So this block doesn't have one.
