Angry temp acting up

ok so i know that theres a billion and a half threads about their jeeps overheating but from all of the ones that ive read my case seems different.

my xj did great about never overheating but the a/c-heat didnt work too well so i got the cooling system flushed to try and help the problem, after that it ran a bit hot but nothing bad. Then a few days ago after itd been sitting for about 2 weeks i started it up and went for a drive, i got about 2 miles and the thing went all of the way up to the line before the 260 so i pulled over and as i was pulling over it dropped back down so i turned arround and headed home, it did this 2-3 times more before i got home. i put in a new thermostat today in the hopes that it was what was wrong, i made it about 6 miles before it overheated and this time it was almost instantaneously. i can not for the life of me figure it out what is causing it to do that, any ideas?

sounds like air pocket, they can be a pain to bleed. pull the cap when its cool, top it off, squeeze the upper hose and keep filling. i've had to jack up the left front with a floor jack to make the filler higher than the heater core. the air can get trapped at the highest point. start it up, and let it run, fill it again. sounds like just needs to be bled right.

this is the best tool for this, and its really pretty cheap, under $30, it fits on your radiator like the cap does, and the funnel fits into it. its also nice cuz it makes the fluid you're filling the highest point no matter what, so air doesn't get trapped.

oh its call "the spill free funnel" and it has a plunger so when its full you plug it and no coolant gets spilled.

its definately great if you're gonna do anything with coolant more than once. and it has adapters for domestic and import radiators

here it is for $22 http://www.toolsource.com/spill-free...-p-102389.html

the only thing better now is the vacuum fillers, that put a vaccuum on the empty coolant system, and the has a hose to a container of coolant and fills it under vacuum. works on even the most complicated to bleed systems in seconds. but it is not practical for diy, and this funnel is.

You may want to replace the radiator cap. Its only like 6 buck and its cheap insurence. My brother n laws would do that but it would be at random times. We had put a new radiator in it but used the old cap. We bleed the system a bunch but it didn't help. Finially put a new cap on it and the problem was solved.

not sure if the newer cherokee's have it, but on my '90 theres a plug for a sensor (i for get exactly what it is, temp i think..) on the rear/driverside of the motor right next to where the valve cover bolts on. pull that sucker and jack up ur rear end as far as it will go and it lets the air out of your coolant system.
