Not unless you have really bad vibes. I've run as much as 4.5" with out dropping and no issues. Just put a 5" on my brothers ZJ and didn't drop it or use a SYE and it rides fine.

I have a 3 inch lift and I needed a 1 inch TC drop.

1" tc drop for my 3" lift on an 01 XJ. Can't really say if I think it was worth the extra money. I'd lift it and go from there...
