Wal-Mart best prices on oil. Better than autozone and other auto stores. I think autozone actually sells it for 25 a Gallon.

Better be damn good for that $. How often do you change oil? If I start driving my Jeep much, I'll do about 500 miles a WEEK off and on. I was changing oil every month at that rate in my DD chevy. But chevy is dying. And will need my Jeep until I either fix that beater or buy something else. NO NO NO NO prissy prius.

Wal-Mart has it for 13-15 bucks. I change my oil every 3 months or 3000 miles.

Ok. That's not bad. I was thinking QUART price, not GALLON. I can handle that. I've been buying Castrol GTX Part Synthetic for my beater DD chevy cavalier, 2.2L POS motor. I put on at least 600 miles a week. Got 310,000 miles on the beast changing oil EVERY Month. Then had Jiffy stupid Lube change my oil one time. Wasn't getting to it. And they blew up the engine. Long story. Tried to sell me everything but told them "just the oil change'. So the punk disconnected some wires to the computer. He knew too much,. Too late when I noticed. Bleeeping &%^%&%.
Dropped in a new - used engine and trans for $400, 60,000 miles ago. Still going but rest of the car is sagging. Of course. So getting Jeep going, then the beater is next. You know, I have no problems changing lanes on the freeway. No one speeds up when I signal.

Never heard of that one. Usually they will put the smallest filter possible on and overfill the crankcase.

Good grief...

There is so much bad information in the last few pages.

Only Pennzoil Platinum advertising the "PurePlus" is manufactured with base stocks synthesized from natural gas.

Quaker State Defy does not have elevated levels of ZDDP worth mentioning.

What filter and oil weight did you end up using? Too thick of an oil will do that, (30 fahrenheit is too cold for 10w) as will a ****ty filter with defective anti drain back valve.

I do not advocate changing oil frequently except as part of a very specific cleanig regimen to bring a sludged engine back to life. The reason for this is that detergents in oils attack the protective layers of antiwear additives that built up over the course of the last oil's life. If you change oil too fast you basically just strip it all away and the additives are useless. So give it time.

I do not recommend Castrol GTX to anybody.

Read some of the links that have been posted. This includes AE Haus' Motor Oil 101 for how oil works in the first place, and after that check out the writeup on engine oil in the Jeep 4.0L: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/rotella-worlds-first-ever-combined-hair-oil-foot-ointment-salad-dressing-188168/

Looks like the amateur petroleum engineers are full of advice again......

Just buy the MFG recommended weight in a mid quality name brand oil and worry about your tire air pressure for a diversion......

Nobody asked what filter the guy used. Is it the same brand as before, or different?

Salad knows his stuff and spent a ton of time putting together a real good thread.

Seems that few are willing to read it though.

They want "opinions" instead and then everyone can banter back and forth about that crap instead.

Salad, would you please give us a quick summary of your findings to appease those lazy folks who are waiting for your stuff to come out on video so they don't have to READ and THINK.

Castrol GTX made my engine sound horrible on start up. It also slowed down my leaks a lot! Whatever homejob blend of T6 and T3 in there right now keeps the engine quiet but leaks more. I'll take the spots over the clatter!
