Pair it with a Napa gold filter and it's awesome
What would be the next best oil? I know a lot recommend Mobil 1 full synthetic but obviously my ride didn't like it. Rotella would be 2nd so what would you all say 3rd would be???

Now I'm worried. I just put in that new full synthetic oil Platinum, made from Natural gas. Didn't think much of the natural gas because most oil is pumped out via a natural gas mixed well anyway. Thought was an advertising gimmick. Anyway. Just changed oil before smog. Should I be adding an additive like Slick50 or something for start ups? I need to add one more quart since was 5 quart container. And it takes 6. I was going to add 20-50w of the Part Synthetic Castrol GTX I use in my old Chevy DD. Any comments?

What is Rotella? I see it at Walmart but never paid much attention.

Honestly man, on my old 4.0(260+k) I ran synthetic once and diddnt see better results. So I just started buying whatever was on sale at AutoZone at the time(10w-30) then I found rotella and my old motor and my new one love it. I also live in Texas though so heavier oil isn't gonna be a problem here cause the heat

A really good Oil is Quaker state Defy motor oil.it's a synthetic blend I use 10w30 it has lots of Zinc and phosphorous which is great for wear on a flat tappet cam. This is the only oil I use after I break in a engine with break in oil from Brad Penn. And a wix filter or.Napa gold which is the same filter.

Rotella is a heavy duty oil made for diesel engines but can be ran in gas engines as well. I dont know a whole lot about it myself but everyone seems to run 15w-40 in their 4.0 jeeps.

I use Defy 10w30 in this as well and this thing gets revved to 6300 rpm and it loves it zero issues. So if this likes it my little 4.0 would too. I tried rotella and it didn't like it. Sounded like my rocker arms where loose and all.

Thanks. Now I remember. I saw it. Says for Diesel. So never gave it a second thought. Run Rotella because a heavier oil? No other reason? Nothing different than regular gas engine oil? Or more lubricating additives?

Haha I'm in the same boat as you are man, has something to do with the higher levels of zinc.

Rotella has been proven to produce a whole new orchestra of sounds in some vehicles. Sometimes not.

Rotella doesn't have the same amount of zddp any more which is zinc and phosphorous. You use to be able to break in a engine with it but not any more it has less zinc and phosphorous then it use to have. That's why I like Defy it has more zinc in it and its like 13 bucks a gallon.

Quaker state defy 10w30? I'll give it a try and see how my 4.0 handles it. I have Mobil 1 10w30 full synthetic In it now so I guess going to a blend won't hurt it. If all else fails looks like I'm back to plain ol' 10w30 dyno oil, which might actually be a good thing.
