Hey everyone, recently bought a 90' Cherokee Laredo. Runs good but after a recent oil/coolant change my oil pressure gauge skyrocketed and never goes down while running. It will will dip down for a second but shoots up as high as the needle can go the rest of the time. It did this a little bit before the oil change but now after it is constant.
Something to note, the oil pump harness (a L shaped rubber nipple in front of where you fill your oil) broke off and I had to replace it. I'm not sure if the other end is inside the tank or not, but would it jam something up in there and cause high pressure? I could probably take the top casing off and check it out but I'm honestly not mechanically inclined.

It sound like your oil pressure switch is bad or it may be plugged. It is located just above your oil filter. A lot of time if you hit it when changing the oil it can mess it up.

Like Robert says, it's an issue with a sensor. That's not an accurate reading. If you'd like to verify that, hook up a mechanical gauge and take a reading. Buy a new oil pressure switch from the dealership.

The oil pressure switch is a cylinder next to the filter correct? It has a small green wire coming off it and attaches near the oil filter?
So you guys don't think the end of the rubber nipple is the cause? Kind of worried me that it was jammed up inside there!

Robert I was looking into a 'factory rebuilt' sensor online for about $30 till I noticed your tag line, "upgrade". You think I should buy it from the dealership instead?

I would never buy a "rebuilt" sending unit. Ever. Unless you like doing things twice...............
Yes, the MOPAR sending unit will provide you with the best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge.

I wonder how they "factory rebuild" a sonic-welded sensor that doesn't come apart? I bet they really are "factory returns that we tested, sorta and gee they look ok" sensors.
Agreed with getting a new OEM. A failed OP sensor can leave you with no oil in your motor.
