Default Stupid Axle shaft U joint question

if the u joint completely went in the front axleshaft of a Jeep (Dana 35) would it cause the whole wheel to come off? I know it would make a hell of alot of noise and would NOT be good.

yeah, I knew that just wanted to hear it for myself before I gave someone the old bird and a "told you so".

Guy looking at my TJ had a mechanic friend look at it and now he's lowballing me one of the things he's saying is the front u joints are trashed and those wheels could come falling off any time going down the road. Now granted, at 85k it's probally time to replace em but come on, drama queen or what?

A friend of mone last year had an issue. He blew a U joint in the left front, and the broken piece flopped around and wedged against one of the balljoints and broke that off. Made for a really long day for him getting home (spare parts like crazy amongst him and his friends...).

Oh don't get me wrong, I know it's not something you want to have happen and can cause damage. But this guy is really trying to play up a few minor and even made up issues (told me the fan clutch was about to go and was loose, yeah checked that out when I got home nice and tight with no play or wobble) so he can lowball my price.

yeah, that's what I figured. I looked at the driver side u joint, yeah, it could use to be replaced since it has some play. pfft, I'll spend the money on parts and do them myself, (mentioned the pinion seals are starting to weep, oooo another whopping $40 in parts LOL) before I listen to some jack *** mechanic who doesn't even put a vehicle on a lift to give an opinion on the condition.
