Default Steering damper- preferred brand?

Noticed my steering damper is leaking while under there doing other things, figure it's time to replace it.
What brand is recommended? How is the standard duty Monroe damper? I can't remember ever having to change one.

FWIW my XJ is used 90% on road, with some occasional dirt road, farm field, logging trail, etc use depending on where I have a job site.. no mudding or rock climbing unless I really get lost.

I always recommend going with an oversize unit Radi, as it will fit without any modification and really helps firm things up, less bumpsteer, etc. I use my Jeep the same way you do, but you can really feel the difference when you upgrade.

I use Rancho. Price isn't much more than an OEM style. Love the Rancho, but there are certainly other oversize brands that would be good as well; I'm sure others will chime in.

Any steering stabilizer other than the direct OEM replacement part is a waste of money.

Some big fancy stabilizer isn't going to perform any better than the stock one.
Why spend the extra money for the name and a colored boot?

Monroe should work as good as without one.
Don't take my words for it, remove the old one, drive it around.....you won't even notice the difference.

I've tried Monroe, RC regular, RC Performance and without. IMHO, i'll just go with the cheapest if you really want to have one.

I use OE replacement stabilizers because a stiffer stabilizer is really just a bandaid for worn out steering components.

I put a Monroe on mine. Firmed up the front end a little, seems fine.

I put a Rough Country scratch and dent on mine since the OE unit was squanking. Very low price and works as good as OE.

How about that, they even make them to match my exterior finish.

Thanks all, for the info. I bolted up an OEM-style Monroe that met my three primary requirements: Cheap, doesn't leak and in-stock.
I was happy with the steering feel with the OEM, so didn't feel the need to firm it up any.
Now a new problem has surfaced. Everything else under there in comparison looks....old. This is how it starts, isn't it.
