Question Steering Box Leak questions

Hello, 2001 XJ. I am having a leak where the input shaft meets the steering box, I have taken a couple of pictures to show where.
I just have a few questions about it.
- Do I need to replace the Power Steering Gear Box Input Shaft Seal?
- Is this the correct item?
Amazon Amazon

- Can I replace the seal without having to remove the steering box? (Basically is there a stupid easy way to replace it?)

Thanks everyone.

No, you have to take out the gearbox, unfortunately. But first make sure it really is that seal and not a hose above, especially the nuts for the hoses.

I rebuilt mine after the reman I bought was so bad I hated driving the Jeep.

There are some really good videos on rebuilding them.

Good luck.

Looking at the pictures closer, it does seem like the leak is from above where the input shaft seal is. Also, usually the leaks happen on the output shaft seal.

So before you go removing the gearbox, clean up all the gunk out and look to see where the leak is from.

Great, thank you. You’re probably right, it may be coming from a hose or something. I will def need to just clean it up and see. It’s pretty disgusting down there.
