Question starting my 98 cherokee jeep?

my 98 is an automatic and from time to time it simply will not turn over.everything comes on and works but no turn over.i have found that if i wiggle the automatic shift and turn the key at the same time jeep cranks no problem and on down the road i go. can someone help me figure out what is happening, and if its just a loose connection and where its at? thanks for all your help.

If it happens again..... put it in neutral and start it.

Razor beat me to the punch, again. Definitely if bumping the shifter forward has worked in the past, try starting it in N. If this works to start your Jeep, also, then you definitely have a bad Nuetral Safety Switch (NSS).

NSS is a common issue.

Leave it in park and push it towards the dash. Mine did it all the time till I took apart the console and cleaned the switches in front of the shifter. All is good now

Here is how to refurbish your neutral safety switch. Performing this procedure will most likely resolve your problem. Good luck!

Wow I just had this same thing happen to my jeep yesterday. It sucked because I just got done adding some lift, pulled it out of the garage and shut it off and then it wouldn't start. Now I know it's the NSS because I've been having trouble with my reverse lights lately. Thanks for the link.

Just wanted to throw out possibility of starter. It wouldnt hurt getting it tested. when they start going, they will sporadically not work, then maybe work, ten work, then not work........ NSS sounds prime because of the giggling
