here is the pre cursor to this thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/won...se-help-26571/
so I was just staring at my starter under my jeep and was thinking, could I buy more battery cable and connect one end to my battery line at celenoid/starter, re route it into my cab, then hook that side to a switch and run the other end off of the other side of the switch and then back to my celenoid to power it.
1. what would be the AMPS in my battery line?
2. if I did it this way, would it reset my computer every time? (I think no)
3. how big of a switch are we talking here? my buddy was telling me about a key stuly huge amp switch you could use and take the key with you to lock it
Ideas?

I would not run a huge battery cable to a switch in the cab..
You would be better off splicing into the power for the ignition coil, fuel pump, or NSS...etc. Something that you can use a relay on and does not take a lot of current.
They do make switches that mount close to the battery to cut off the vehicles power supply, however you would have to reset your radio every time you switch it. This would be good for storing your XJ. However, all it would take is for someone to watch you walk up to the grille (of pop the hood) and see you stick the big red key in each time to know what you are doing.

The ignition coil? It is mounted on the passenger side of the engine block just in front of the distributor.
The Start Solenoid? Is typically mounted to the starter and wired into it. For this reason I would not bother messing with it. If it is mounted to the inner fender (like a lot of older Fords) you could do the same by cutting the 12v to the solenoid.

so there is the hot lead coming in from the battery to seleniod and a 12 smaller wire? I saw there was one that I think is a yellow wire I assumed it was ground, or is it already grounded because its attached to the unibody?

Bad idea. You don't want high amp cables in the cab. That is why they invented relays and solenoids. The starter solenoid uses a small wire low power to control the starter large cables high amps.
If you want a starter kill switch, you could run your solenoid wire to the cab, attach a switch and run the wire back to the solenoid. Now with the switch off, you cannot start the car with a key. Just a thought.
Or you could control the solenoid wire with a relay and a switch but that would be more complicated.
Don't mess with your coil or any thing that is computer controlled. You may be asking for more problems.

yeah I dont want to mess with the coil
