started the jeep and it sounds like theres a turkey in the engine?
1999 4.0
I've been fighting a lot of gremlins with my jeep lately and it always seems like once I fix something, another thing comes up.
Today I started the jeep and it sounded like there was an animal on its last legs under my hood. Like a whimper, then it would go away. I'd hear it when I was at a stop and it went away after driving on the freeway.
I let the jeep sit for a couple of hours and when I started it this is how it sounded:
[youtube]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{SIMPLETEXT}"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SXnCzfMtg2M" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/youtube]
Shut the engine off and it went away on the next startup.
What could this be? My biggest concern is a catastrophic failure if I leave it unchecked until the weekend.
EDIT: I can't figure out how to embed so heres the direct link:

Sounds like when my power steering pump gave up the ghost and seized its bearing on me.
Can you narrow down the source? I use empty paper towel rolls to help isolate the sound, or use a mechanics stethoscope

As was said, that's definitely coming from a pulley.
Looooong shank screwdriver with the tip on an accessory near the pulley and the handle pressed to your ear will help, or a mechanic's stethoscope which is very cheap.
As far as embedding, that's one thing this site actually makes very easy.... just go to the video you want and copy the URL of the PAGE's video (not the URL in the "share" link)... then paste it without any bbcode or htmlcode and it will auto-embed.
So, quite literally this:
