My 97 XJ that has been in the family since my mom bought it off the lot back in 97 for 13.7K died on the way to work the other day. She only has 150k miles and has never given me major issue.

I came up to a stop light and she started sputtering then died. She will crank and and it fires once or twice but won't run (I'm just turning the key for a about 5 secs and let off once I hear it fire). Thought for sure it was the fuel pump/filter but just tested the rail and got a solid 50PSI. Starter is new and sounds strong, so is the battery. I did notice some smoke in the intake after trying to start. Wish I was more technical but XJs are just to easy to keep up with and work on I haven't had to learn much.

Any ideas to what to try next?

Do you have spark? I'd check that first. Let us know and we can go from there.
