Question Stalls in reverse

first off, i did search and found none with my symptoms.

Vehicle= 98' Cherokee classic 4.0L with automatic trans

1. stalls in reverse under load in any condition cold or hot
2. i can hold gas and brake in reverse and it revs up and down and bucks
3. i can barely push the gas in reverse but it will drive in reverse
4. any sort of incline, im pretty much F'd unless i can drive forward.

pleaseeee

Have you checked the NSS, Neutral Safety Switch? It's position dependent and close to park for start.

Everything works OK in drive or neutral, no bucking or stalling?

I'd start with:
1) Unplug NSS after engine is started to see if problem still happens. Not likely a NSS problem, but who knows.
2) Check CPS, O2 sensors and Trans wiring for any sign of damaged wiring, abraded insulation, etc that might be shorting when you hit reverse.

I've also heard of loose engine to trans bolts causing the same symptom. Worth looking at.

Is your trans fluid clean? i also had a issue on a ford like yours and it was a cloged egr.

But i belive your reverse sunshell is bad in the trans.

Sunshells in the trans? WTH is a sunshell and how did it get in there? Pick it up four wheeling on the beach?
