Squealing Distributor Shaft ?
1998.5/ 1999 cherokee sport classic FWD stock 4.0 straight 6, FI, no ABS.
been hunting down a squeal for days now that its colder when cold below-50F. Started squealing a week ago when the weather turned cold. squeals for a while, then warms up and goes away, squeal is not from alternator, not AC clutch bearing, not water pump, not idler pulley, etc.
today squeal would not go away after warming up, left running used stethoscope when it was squealing really bad to isolate sound, sounds like it is coming from under the distributor cap - took off cap every thing looks normal... do Jeep distributor shafts squeal when they go bad? if so, How long can I drive it like this ? ... checked with all 8 local parts stores no one has a distributor in stock.
