Ok, son turned the crank, felt compression, set to "0." Now this is where the rotor is, I'm not doing anything else until you say so,

Then line up oil pump shaft with screw driver like this .....11 oclock...

Then install dist like this....Dont worry abut the cap thats been cut in this pic.

That looks correct and yes there should be a round gasket used.

Hang on…Where can I get a gasket today? The distributor didn't come with one and the old one didn't have one either

Is your replacement disributor a new one or a rebuilt one?

What brand?

BTW: That bang you heard was your Catalytic Convrter blowing up. :-)
