Default Speedometer adjustment

How exactly do I go about adjusting my speedometer without having a t-case? Everything I read involves changing out the speedo gear in the t-case, but I don’t have one. So what can I do?

Im also running WJ wheels, tire size 235/65/17

2WD speedo gears are in the trans instead of the transfer case. Just follow the cable and you should see it. It takes the same gears as 4WD and are replaced. https://comancheclub.com/topic/4442-2wd-speedo-gear/

Thanks. Only problem is that I have the electronic speedo, not the cable driven one.

Just make sure you buy the right gear for the Electronic Speedometer, but same thing.
OH! Maybe get an "O" ring for the speedometer sensor too.

There is a gear on the end of the sending unit that is in the tail shaft of the trans. They are super easy to change. You just need to be sure to index it right when putting it back in. Use this chart for correct gear tooth count.

Sender looks like this.

Looks like I need a 39 tooth gear.

Now, what do you mean by indexing it the right way? Like is there a mark it has to line up with?

Yes, depending on what gear you go with, you need to twist the sending unit to match. Its been a few years since I have done this so dont trust me completely! On the base of the sender (the part that will bottom out on the transmission case) it has 4 lines on it. In between those lines. it will have a range of #s. Whatever tooth gear you have, you will use one of those lines to line up to a small raised dot on the trans. If you look at the picture above, you will see the dot at the 6 o'clock position on the case.

I actually recommend pulling out the existing one and verifying the tooth count first. Then figure out how far off your speed is, and multiply the ratio to get the tooth count you need. Since tires are often slightly smaller or larger than the nominal size, you might find you need one more or less tooth than the chart says. I believe there is a long shaft and short shaft version of the speedo gear depending on the which sensor too?

I was actually planning on looking at it, because i’m not sure if it’s been replaced or not. I used to have 31’s, but I swapped them out for 29’s, which is the WJ tires. But if it had been replaced from whatever tooth count I had to whatever tooth count 31’s needed for the speedo to be spot on, wouldn’t me moving down in tire size make my speedo show i’m going faster than I actually am?
