Hiw exactly does this mod work? I am very curious.
It keeps the flutes from picking up oil spray off of the valve train.

No need. Install a switch in the HVAC panel to interrupt the A/C Request signal to the PCM. Works great! I've got bilev and warm defrost in my '99.

Pin 5 or something of the '97+ HVAC panel connector.

Mister OP you can probably use the same idea on your 1991. If it works the same way as later years of course.

Cool deal, and makes sense. So on both flutes, trim 1 inch off and then drill a 1/2" hole on the rear flute near the top facing to the rear? Or a hole in both flutes?

Thanks again Cruiser!

Sounds good. I'm going to hunt around for a diagram some more. Worst case, I'll just pull the HVAC control out enough to use a multimeter and find which wire gives signal when the defrost/ac settings are selected.

By chance, anyone know exactly what the 'Heat' option is for in the Pre-97 XJ's? It goes to the floor vents.

I needed to copy and paste your "images", (couldn't just click), didn't find it there. But a few of mine! Then in #25, there is a link on the bottom, "to view full image", but it didn't open or me. Maybe my thing, but I AM on high-speed or a change....
