Smoke from air filter!!!! Help!

So i recently changed the hose that goes from the intake box to the engine. I replaced it for a small air filter. But now that small filter is smoking like crazy!!! I dont know what that means. Can anybody help?

It's crankcase vapors. Normally it's sucked back into the intake. But, you removed that return line so it's gonna barf into the engine bay now. On my old 1992, I ran a 5/8 hose from the valve cover all the way down next to the transmission on the drivers side so the gases would exit under the Jeep. Seemed to work. Stinks at stoplights tho and I'm pretty sure it's illegal in states with inspections as the crankcase fumes are NOT supposed to be vented to atmosphere.

If I am not mistake the front (air box) pulls air IN and the rear sucks air out. If your getting front vapor then would the rear not be working right? Or does the airbox just collect residual until next start?

Sounds like your describing blow-by what happens as you engine gets worm out.
Compression is blown past the rings, leaking into the crankcase then expelled via the valve cover.
