So I'm at a light and I feel a slight grinding noise underneath my foot. I hear a slight grinding noise as well. I'm not too sure what it can be. I'm still learning about my Jeep and automotives in general, so bear with me haha. Does the (front) driveshaft spin at all when at a stop? I feel like it can be that. It may also be that, but when its slowly coming to a stop. I have an issue with my rear, it's an unbalanced front XJ shaft, but I'm on a hack n tap at a little over 6.5''.

Is it auto or manual? If a manual trans It could be the throwout bearing or a bad clutch. And no. The front drive safe doesn't move while the truck isn't moving.

 

It's an auto. Hmm.. What moves/can grind while not in motion?

It can be a bent or cracked flex plate. That is always moving when the engine is running.

 

I'm feeling the vibration right under my foot when it's resting on the brake. Could I be feeling that there? It's a possibility that it can be that.

I had a similar vibration that I traced to a bad bushing in my transfer case linkage.

 

This bushing will drive you crazy. Next time you hear it, place your hand on the t-case shift and push down a bit. The pressure should eliminate the noise if its the bushing.

Of course, you will have to replace the bushing, or hold your hand there all the time.

 

And it was happening when idling?

Hmm.. I'll try that next time it happens just to eliminate it.

 

It only happens at idle. Like I said, it will drive you nuts.

 

Oh, I had a 'grind' this winter. The hanger on the exhaust was bad. The pipe was ever so slightly tapping against the heat shield of the gas tank. Thought I had chewed a t-case for a moment.
