Luckily the new oil filter had a pin hole and I spotted the oil pressure drop quickly.

Probably the pinch seam between the can and base flange, right? We got a few of those when I worked for Valvoline. We were always told to check after startup to make sure it wasn't leaking. The problem is they don't always start leaking right away. Hope you caught it in time.

It's not actually, it's half way up the can itself. As long as my oil comes out clean when I check it, I should be good.

I was mistaken. When removed it must be coming from the seam as you suggested. From above when it was running it didn't look like it at all.

It was a Wix. The part suppliers have sent us a Bosch to replace it.

In my opinion, Wix are trash! I use either a Mopar or a Purolator One. Bosch should be fine.

Our supplier uses lots of Wix products and to be fair this is the first failure I've seen. We might request more Bosch now though. Mopar isn't readily an option here.

Funny thing. I lived down the street from the Fram factory in Cranston RI when I was young. We used to get factory seconds real cheap, but you never knew why they were seconds. What you experienced was one of the reasons. Sometimes it was just the paint job.

At least you caught it in time!! Better to get a tow back home to fix the problem than a tow to the salvage yard (I believe you call them "breakers" IIRC), right!?!

Scrap yard, salvage yard or breakers. When you start calling them dismantlers, that's when the pick parts yourself goes out the window. It also varies around the country as to what you'd call it.
