Default Rusted Shackle Repair?

Hello, I am looking at buying a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with 78,000 miles. The only things wrong with it is that the Spring Hanger is rusted and needs repair and the Tailpipe broke off about a foot or So. Can anyone give me an estimate of what this will cost to repair? The Jeep runs great. Seller is selling it for 2100 and my Budget is 2500. Hoping it wont cost too much for this to be fixed.

Comment responses please!

Welcome to the forum!

Andrew is correct on the parts, but I might suggest that you use these two things as bargaining chips on the price. He is asking $2100 for it offer $1800 because of the repairs needed and the labor to have it done correctly. Then stick to that price for a while till he gives at least $200 off the ask price.

The known problems on the jeep will eat up a good chunk of that $400 repair budget. What you need to anticipate is how much you may need to spend on the other stuff. And there's always other stuff. Look it over closely before you pull the trigger at your budget limit. There's always room to negotiate. Give yourself some more room to do the repairs you're not yet aware of.

If those are rusted out like that there is more rust that your missing keep looking at the floor pans and frame, poking them with a small screwdriver where you see rust.

Sounds like a real basket case, may just want to keep looking unless you are in to $$$$ fab.

If its just the rear shackles those are super easy to replace,If its the front spring hanger like i showed i would think twice about buying it unless it has no other rust and runs and drives good.

IMO keep looking for something else. There's always good deals if you look hard enough
