Default rough idle and a clicking sound

Guys my 01XJ is running wierd. Just all of a sudden. When i 1st start it, it runs fune. Once it warms up the RPMs drop and it wants to die, i have to give it gas to keep it running or sumtimes it stays running but at a way low rpm. I cleaned the IAC sensor and it still does it. What i noticed is that when i manually give it sum throttle via the throttle body i hear a tic tic tic tic sound coming from some canister or somthing, not sure what to call it. It has two vacuum hoses i think, one runs to the intake manifold the other i believe runs underneath driver side. The "canister" sits on the passenger side right next to the AC lines where they go into the AC canister. It doesnt tic when its cold only when it warms up that it makes this tic tic tic noise. Whats this called and can you guys post any pictures? thanks

well i did have cylinder six misfire when the light was on. What happend is i left the dome light on and the battery went dead. I charged it and when i started it up the light was gone but this problem came instead. Not sure what to do about the misfire. Dont even know where the coil pack is located or even where the o2 sensor is. I was looking for them but couldnt find them. If i want to change plug wires where do i get them? they are all connected to sum bar that goes into the plugs as a big piece.

well first you have a distributor-less ignition. your jeep has a coil over set up.
to test these you would need to ohm them out and check your repair manual for good ohms and find the faulty (must know the good ohm number to tell bad) or you could test all and replace the one coil with the least ohms.

youre o2 sensor is on the exhaust by the oil pan or after it. id check your coils first with #6 miss then check the injector. your code will return after awhile of driving

Did you ever figure this out?
Mine does the exact same thing.. If I start it cold and let it idle for a while, it starts fine but then after a few minutes it really starts bucking and sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders and really struggles to keep running. I changed all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

Default me too

Same thing happening with my 01xj. Runs ok when cold but starts misfiring when warmed up. Mine is #5 misfire though. I put new plugs in and replaced the coil pack. Even tried seafoam treatment to remove carbon. Going to check fore a stuck valve next.

how to you check for a stuck valve? Can you just remove the valve cover and let it run and look at each valve to see if they are closing?

edit, nevermind, i did check my compression, I definitely dont have a stuck valve.

I would check your intake manifold. I was chasing a similar problem with misfires on cylinder 6 and gas milage was way down. I took a can of carb cleaner with nozzle on it and sprayed around intake manifold where it bolts on the engine and sure enough broken manifold.

You're right man.. this morning I found that if I sprayed carb cleaner around the number 1 cylinder intake, it would bog..
I JUST replaced the gasket and exhaust manifold too. ANd I cleaned the surface of the intake manifold, so I don't know how I could have missed a crack or break, but sure enough, it is pulling in air so it must be. And I KNOW that all my bolts are tight, I torques them down probably 5 times. What a bummer, now I have to go to the boneyard and see if I can find a '97 intake.

Sorry for hijacking the OP's thread, I'll start a new one if I have any questions on sourcing a manifold.
