Hmmm. Looks like my subscription is up lol.

Well as for topic, people use rotella. 4.0s are considered lil diesels because of the noises they make.

Should I switch to T5 maybe? Or back to the NAPA house brand 10-30 I have been running for years.
The NAPA house brand oil is actually Ashland Oil (Valvoline).

I'd go back to what you were originally using. Don't know why people feel the need to switch oils and when problems occur they are swept under the rug.

Plus, they can knock off chunks which then plug passages. In some parts of the country, that's considered Not A Good Thing.

The idea of a flush scares me a bit. Just like removing the valve cover and chiseling away at chunks.

Rotella and MMO will work wonders and you can monitor it through the oil filler hole.

I can't speak for the T5, but the T3 cleans things up real nicely.

If I had an engine that were that gunked up, I'd take the cover off and scrape most of it out, then pressure wash it or run it through a parts washer to get it clean.

Only after I had verified that is was squeaky clean and dry would it go back on that engine.

Wal-Mart will deliver 2 gallons of Rotella to your door for $4.95 shipping. Free with over a $50 puchase.
It's an 80 mile trip for me so shipping costs less than gas, not to mention the 3+ hours it takes to and from 'town'.

Well I just figured I'd try the Rotella T6 and Wix Gold filter and see for myself.
I have no lifter noise at all today.
I park my 89 Cherokee between two buildings and every morning run in and get my coffee and leave my 4.0L running and I usually don't have to listen very hard.
I have had this Jeep for 2 years now and ran full synthetic in it ever since I got it.
I talked about a knock in the engine when starting it, but today it sounded a lot better on the start. I am satisfied with the result. I'll keep everyone informed as time goes on. Hoping the knock goes away now. The engine has plenty of power, but has 155,100 miles
My son drives a 2004 Chevy Impala and the guy he bought it from never changed the oil and used it as a pizza delivery car. After about a year and a half of changing the oil with synthetic...you can't even hear the lifters any more.
Thanks!~John
