Default Roof rack placement

I was wondering if its bad to put a cargo rack on the back part of the roof. I need to put a ski rack on the front part, so as far back as it will go before the rear hatch hits it. Will it still be ok going up really steep hills, or have a huge tendincy to tip back?

I don't think you would have and problems tipping backward
unless you have a thousand pounds up there

Keep in mind roof rack make you more top heavy than you already are so watch the side hill stuff if you go that route

You should be fine just make sure you don't overload the stock roof rack.

i had my spare up there and NEVER had any issue with turns, its stock size but i wouldnt put more than a 31 up there just cause you are gonna have to get it down sometime and its gonna suck, if you have a stock size or a lil bigger go ahead you should be fine, i just used them black rubber bungee cords to secure mine and it didnt ever go anywhere. if you are on a camping trip and have a couple coolers up there that are full and your spare, i think thats when you will really have to watch out but other than that you should be great, btw i dont have a rear sway bar so i have more body roll than those that do have them in

31s were hard to throw up on the roof rack, with my 31s and 7 inch lift it was a workout

Yea I've got 31's and its definately hard to move the tire from the rack. I learned to park an atv next to it and stand on that

I think the weight limit on the factory roof rack is only 150 lbs., so keep that in mind.

My roof rack only holds the spare most of the time. Its mounted on 2 factory rails with a 3rd under it that the racks not mounted to yet.

might it be worth it to make you up a swing away tire carrier and a bumper or a fold down tire carrier that fits in your hitch?

I'd love to put a swing away carrier/ bumper on it but there pretty expensive. How much do fold down carriers run?
