Default Replacing the fuel rail - Got any tips? Recommended sources?

I have a bad fuel rail, and will be replacing it. Any tips? Any recommendations for a source? I see Morris has it for $250. Are there any other parts (seals maybe?) that I would need to order? Or does it come with everything I need?

I've contacted Programbo to get injectors. Anything else I should consider? Any other jobs I should do while I'm at it?

How big a job is it? Can I have it out and in in a day? Any special tools required?

I personally would just go get one at a JY for 10 bucks, but if you want a new one that's all you.

If you're doing this on a 97+ you're going to have to buy a fuel line disconnect tool but if it's an older year you don't need anything special. As for the seals, you should be getting new o-rings on the injectors from whoever you buy them from so you won't need any type of seal/oring. Oh and make sure to lube up the new o-rings on the injectors themselves with some vaseline before installing them.

You can have the job done in less than 3 hours(taking your time) so don't worry about that.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Junkyards aren't an option - there are no good ones near me. It's just pathetic.

I've got a 97, but I already have the disconnect tool.

Thanks!

Maybe look for a part out on craigslist near you? If not maybe someone on the forum would sell you one.

Thanks, Cruiser. With my long to-do list, it helps to know that!

As for CL or a member.... I need this now, and I've got to have it right the first time. I'll spend the bucks and get a new one. I'm seeing them just under $200 on several online sources.

Here's one on Ebay. Looks pretty good, and cheaper than what you have been looking at.

How does one remove the plugs from the injectors? Just out of curiosity. I wanted to do this to check my compression but I opted to unplug the pump near the tank/ undercarriage.

Would this be an alternative to disconn. The connection by tank?

That looks really good, Ken! Thank you! It's been ordered!

Are there any seals I would need to order with that? Other hardware?

I have PM'd Programbo about injectors, but have not heard back from him yet. I suppose his injectors will come with new seals.

I'm not quite following what you are trying to do. Do you mean you are trying to check the fuel pressure? To check compression, you would remove the spark plugs. To check the fuel pressure, you would use the port that has a schrader valve on it (like a bicycle tire valve) and borrow or buy a fuel pressure tester that connects to it.

The injectors have o-rings that keep a tight seal on the fuel rail. Then there are clips that keep the injectors from pulling out. THen there is a wiring harness socket that connects to each injector to activate the solenoid and deliver fuel.

Unplug the CPS to do a compression test.

.
Here's a picture of the injector if you still have the stock ones. You can see there are two o-rings and then a pintle cap on the injector nozzle and sometimes even a hard plastic spacer.

OK-I get it now. I usually pull the fuel pump relay and ignition coil wire to check compression. Does pulling the CPS effectively cut both fuel and ignition?

While checking compression, I've read that the fuel source needs to be put offline. I just unplugged the connection by the fuel tank. Heres a great video detailing Injector replacement.
