Replace Blower Resistor
OK...I did a search to see if I could find some information on how to do this.... did not find any so here goes.
I have a 97 Cherokee Sport 4.0 -2WD-4door....my daughters college car.
Yes, I now the blower resistor is bad and I have a new one. I know it is behind the glove box...but I DO NOT know how to take out the glove box without breaking something...SO I need advice on the " HOW TO "
Any help is appreciated.....

you do not have to.there is a little black cover just under the dash on that side, remove screws and the resistor is right there, maybe a little hard on the back but not to bad. This is the cover in the pic.

Great...I got it out. Actually I did remove the glove box, only 3 screws on the bottom. It did make it a little easier. Thanks for the help and the tip !!!

I am going to put the new one in today. Got busy finishing off a bottle of ole jack .....Here is a picture of what it looks like out of the Jeep. Only two screws holding it in. Also the wire harness connector has a "red" lock that must be removed in order to depress the locking clip to move the male plug from the female resistor plug.

Well, I finished the up yesterday, Turkey Day, before the big get together with the family. If I would have stayed with it...Less than 1 hour easy for the whole job. Now the Jeep Chk and four fan speeds.
Next job is the headliner....it droops worse than my ex-wife's face
Thanks again to all... the Judge... you better turn....before you burn

The resistor is easier than the headliner, find a good one in the jy,I found a 98 and put it my 89,made better and looks better. They are easy to remove.
I tried to put new material on one before, scrapped the backboard clean, used good glue, and good material, took allday and it drooped within 6 months. Now I just buy ones from the jy,$20 and about 2 hours to change.

What did you pay for a new resistor? Cheapest I could find was ~$50 on ebay.

Heater Blower Resistor
The one I purchased was used, won the bid. Can't remember exactly, but it was under $25.00 including shipping.
Got it from a place in North Carolina. I have bought several items from them before and they guarantee all the parts.
I can get there Ebay site if you would like it.

Great...that is my next project. Right now, I am holding it with upholstery tacks. Painted them the same color of the headliner so it does not look too bad.
Thanks, The Judge

I have just purchased a 1996 Cherokee 2WD, so I'm in the learning stage of this vehicle. The fan switch works only in the "high" position. Would this be a resistor or switch problem?

Like DNA at a crime scene, you are going to jail !!! ha ha ...... 99.99% it is the Resistor !!! That is the same problem I had with my 97 Chk Jeep Sport.

HelmuthJ and Abovetimberline, many thanks for this thread. It showed me what I was looking for and where to locate it. Got one from a wrecked 2001 XJ in a junkyard for £10 (about $16). Took an hour to get the one out of the scrapper and fit it to mine. Not bad because it is below freezing here at the moment.
Thanks for the help. This forum is so useful.
