Removing interior rusted screws
Hey Everybody,
I'm thinking about taking the carpet out of my jeep to clean it bc its pretty gross. I have a 92 so I think its about time to clean the 20 years of crap thats in the carpets.
My problem.. The screws that hold the interior panel piece on the floor in the back of the jeep are pretty much dissolved from rust. Sorry if this is a [I]dumb[I] question but whats the best way to remove them? I was thinking somewhere along the lines of just drilling a new whole right through the rusted ones?
Also, is removing the carpet a complicated task? Or am I just making this more complicated then it should be?
Thanks!

It's an impact driver. It turns when you smack it. Supper effective for large screws on something solid....also.
For a small Philips something else that works sometimes...I'll spray it of course, then with a smaller hammer, (or a heavy handle of something), Smack the screwdriver down, repeatedly. The shock helps free the screw and the downward blow helps distort whats left of the screw head to fit the driver. Then more spray because you just loosened stuff in the screw "slot's". Then you lean on it for all your worth and hope it turns. If it's clear it's not coming out, you can try going IN just a tad and see that cracks it loose. Hrs of thrilling fun, I say!

What about a screw extractor kit? I just bought mine because half the screws wouldn't remove from the door scuff plates. Haven't attempted to use the kit yet to remove the rest, but definitely seems like the way to go for smaller screws. I picked up a small kit at Home Depot for like $12.
I'm considering on removing mine someday, but considering on replacing it with the vinyl all around!

Kit sounds neat. That reminded me, guys have posted having some good results with reverse drill bits. It's really tough drilling something small, especially when the material it's in isn't as hard as the screw, which is too often the case.
Also there are some cool deals that screw into, or expand in a large hole where the screw WAS, that are threaded for the smaller screw.

I'll have to check out home depot for that kit. I wish the vinyl kit wasn't so steep. I would love to not have to even put the nasty carpet back in

Or you can install a fiberglass cutting wheel on your dremel and cut a slit to use a flat head screwdriver.

I wouldn't even put the carpet back in the back. Just bed line it and be done.
I did put the carpet back in the front of mine I just pulled all the nasty insulation off. You would be surprised how clean you can get the carpet when you pull it out and put a real shampooer on it.

Do your floors get hot just with the bed liner? I also heard that it makes it real loud too.
I'm thinking maybe take out the carpet after the front seats bc I have my backseat out all the time and line the back and keep the carpet in the front.
