remaned str8 6
Hey all, so after a lot of headache trying to fix my stock 87 jeep cherokee i'm replacing it with a remaned straight 6 from gearheadengines.com They said it was remaned to original specs, so what else do I need to do to get this baby purring again? Like what old stuff from my old engine should be bought new? needs to be fixed? I have a brand new cooling system so that's taken care of. It's a manual so should I replace the clutch? I've never pulled an engine let alone swapped one so I will take all the advice I can get.

I mean your already in there I would replace the clutch personally. Water pump t-stat, spark plugs intake/exhaust gasket, if its not coming with oil pan, valve cover and timing cover you will need those gaskets as well. Distributor gasket. Also how much did you pay for that engine Im in the market

Yes, as in I6, Inline 6. Ive heard people say straight before too.
I wouldnt worry about other stuff. None of it, as odd as it sounds, has anything to do with swapping blocks.....unless youve got bad parts that caused your old engine to crap out. Your old trany, cooling system, alternator, starter, etc., should be fine unless they arent fine to begin with.

· Valve Cover
· Intake Manifold
· Exhaust Manifold
· Timing Chain Cover
· Water Outlet/Thermostat Housing
· Distributor
Other things to consider:
· Distributor Cap
· Ignition Rotor
· Spark Plugs
· Wires
· Air Filter
Don’t forget your fittings, oil and temp sending units.
· Oil
· Oil filter
· Antifreeze
That’s all I can think of right off.
Just curious, how much warrantee are you getting; 7 years/100,000 miles?

Yeah sorry str8 6 was meant to be straight 6 meaning the 4.0L inline 6. The engine was just under 2k including the core charge delivered to my driveway. It comes with an unlimited mile 3 year warranty and it includes a complete gasket package so that should be covered I think/hope.
I know I want to replace the spark plugs, wires, coolant temp sensor, and I'm thinking about putting a Centerforce Dual Friction Performance Clutch from Rusty's.
Does anyone know anything about this? ie. quality? price? Worth the benifits? (I like to play on the dunes in the sand and have blown out a couple of clutches doing so)

Oh and how do I reset the odometer to 0?!?!

The centerforce clutch is a good clutch have used several of them. But since this is a puck style clutch it will have a really different feel and may almost feel hard to drive because it is going to be grabby. It will hold better then a factory style clutch for sure. Just something to consider.
