Any hints (with pics if possible) for pulling a Class III receiver off a junkyard XJ? Gonna go to my local pick and pull and look for one. As I understand it, most XJ receivers have nut plates inside the frame and you have to take off the rear bumper to get them out. Appreciate the info.

sorry dont have any pics, but yes you are correct. most recievers you will find will have the nut plate inside which is only accessible by removing the bumper. idk about all of them, but the one i pulled had one rivet holding the nutplate to the unibody. it might not be that way for all of them, but i would come prepared to shear it off. also on some there is a backing plate above the back of the actual receiver that usually has two torx bolts that bolt in between the gas tank and the unibody.

hope i explained that well enough, ill try to get some pics though.

You don't NEED the nutstrips if you don't want to remove the bumper. BUT, then you'll have to fish the bolts through which might end up being more of a pain then pulling the bumper and grabbing the nutstrips. Also, if you're getting it off a Renix, see if it has a Dana 44 in the rear. Some of the Renix's with the tow package came with a Dana 44, so I would keep my eyes open for one of em.

Nice, thanks for the heads up on the Torx-forgot about those (probably a T-55) and the Dana 44
