Default Filling holes

Well I replaced my heater with a aftermarket heater and now I have two large holes to cover. I plan on using aluminum to cover the holes but I cant figure out what I should put between the firewall and the plate? Thanks

Put some Great Stuff in there. It will expand to fill the entire area with little leakage. I would put the pieces in and tighten it most of the way leaving just a small amount of space for the straw for the great stuff. Fill it with foam then quickly tighten the rest of the screws. Sealed and the nice thing about it is you can cut it to remove it. I would then seal the metal patches with some type of caulk to make sure it is water tight.

I put an extra heater in mine this year and filled the space around the new hoses that go into the cab area with the foam. It has done a great job sealing and stopping the cold air.

Hope this helps!

haha, that's what my bro used to tell me. lol

seriously tho, you can use a large piece of thick rubber as a gasket when you plate it off. or use caulk.

if you have any RTV, just use that. leave the caulk to the bathroom and kitchen guys.

apply the RTV around the opening then use tek screws to fasten the block off plate over that large opening.

or you can grind the paint off around the hole and tack weld the block off plate to it.

just use your imagination, you'll come up with something.

Yeah, X2 to caged on this one.... caulk is for home improvement crap. If you're going to use "caulk", at least use silicone. If it were mine, I'd use RTV or go to your local autobody supply store and pick up a tube of windshield sealant or a butyl rope.
