Default rear windshield wiper switch question

My rear wiper works just fine, but how do you make it spray washer fluid? The switch only seems to be one position, but does have a spray graphic on it. I have a feeling I have a bad switch or other problem.

Hold it down to spray. When you let go it'll return to its on position.

same subject, mine doesn't squirt out fluid. i already took off the hatch panel and everything is in working order. i think it's the washer pump went bad. my question is there are 2 washer pumps in the fluid washer bottle. which one of the pump is for the hatch wiper? Top or Bottom pump?

The one that works when you spray your windshield is NOT the one.

I don't remember, sorry. You can figure it out real quick by unplugging one and seeing if it still sprays. You can then check the wiring for the other pump by switching the wires from one to the other - if your rear washer switch can activate the front sprayers, you're good.

I had multiple problems when I bought my XJ. Rear washer and wiper didn't work. Replaced the wiper motor and the washer pump and it still wouldn't work - although I could hear the pump trying. blasting some compressed air through the line from both ends eventually broke all the dried up crud free. Really didn't want to replace that line, heh.

Same issue here, what I was told Wes there is a one direction valve either in the hatch or near the rear of the XJ. It stops the line from draining back to the bottle. That valve basically has a spring and a ball in it. That valve seizes up. Either replace it or see if you can't dismantle it and clean it up.

I haven't done it yet as it's still snowing here, but I know the pump works because I can hear it. See if that may be your problem.
