So somehow this happened... It was in use the previous night and I have no doubt that my friend would have noticed any damage as it would have been over his chest.
So my question is, was this seatbelt used on other models as I am struggling so far to find one that has the roof mount/drop part.
From the looks of the parts catalog, ONLY the European model came in black. The U.S. models were charcoal, sand, Agate, Tan, etc.
Not only that, but the part numbers are DIFFERENT for 1994, 1995 and 1996 models.
The 95 part number is: 5531 4890-1
Even the Wranglers and Grand Cherokees of the same years used different assemblies.
You may have to decide whether you want to try to get one from a U.S. cherokee with a different color, leave it without the seatbelt, or possibly find a collision shop or auto interior shop that might be able to put a new belt on the old retractor assembly.
I've contacted multiple breakers and one who has got back to me has a 93 reg. The pictures of the Jeep are identical so I wonder if the differences in years could be the clip of the belt. I'll get back to them and try and get a pic of where it all mounts in and possibly give it a shot. They are asking £25 posted which isn't too bad. As for leaving it off, it would fail its next MOT and that rear seat seems to be the preferred by passengers for some reason.
Well, you could see if you can get both ends, in which case you could just use the original bolts to mount the parts and know that everything will clip in together. You may need to get creative to make the 93 belt parts fit (maybe drilling holes bigger or finding a bushing) and that sort of thing, but certainly it should be do-able.
We have a nice box of seatbelt fittings at work so if needed I could remove the unwanted belt parts from both fittings under the seat, place a spacer between the 2 and offset them to prevent rubbing.
Hey, Dude! My 2000 Cherokee Sport 4dr has black overhead mounted belts in the back seat. It looks like yours got cut on the seatback latch. Besides that, I think the one in the picture is charcoal. Anyhow, it looks the same as mine.
It's just strange as I could easily understand that but what's getting me is that I noticed it when I dropped the seat down, not lifting it back up. If it were to have cut while I was near, I know I should have heard it as it's a very free retractor mech and would have made a bit of noise. However it did break and I've got a potential one lined up.
I swear this Jeep doesn't want to be fixed, I've just bought a small list of bits to fit then it breaks others. Bought a rear wiper arm, motor destroys its commutator. Buy a retractable boot cover and only have 1 remaining mount for it (although I designed and printed a replacement). Just a side question, from what I can gather those boot/cargo covers are hard to come by and can cost a bit? Is this true as that would mean my £18 buy was a bargain.
I would say that was a steal for a 95! Although they may not have changed much over the years, most people leave them in the garage. I believe the one for my 97 ZJ is still somewhere in my garage even thought the ZJ was sent to the shredder in 2010 because it nearly broke in half. I got quite a bit of money parting that one out first.
I paid $70 for my retractable cargo cover shipped from a boneyard that specializes in Jeep parts. With all the plastic mounting points but not the 2 metal ones behind the panel behind the rear seat. One of the plastic pieces was busted in 3 pieces. But not in a critical place. Nothing glue can't fix. The cover itself is in near perfect condition. My point being I thought that was a pretty good deal. But not as good as $22 US. The fun will start next Spring when I try to see if I can rig it in the '00.
As promised. Found a second shot I saved off the internet of one in a LHD '96 and down too. Really can't see the area I think you are talking about as well though.
