Default Rear main seal question

I'm about to replace my rear main seal due to leaks, and I'm looking on the O'Reilly site to see if my store has it in stock, and they come up with two different seals. Which is it?

They are pretty similar but i'm not sure which is the one i need

They are both correct but get the second one with the double lip.

Why is the first one more expensive?

You would have to ask them that,it maybe that the only jeep that cannot use the double lip is a 2001,the double lip is by far the most desired to use and proabably sells alot more.

I took it as he doesn't knows why the first one is more money, and was just giving a generic example of a possible reason for the difference (I could be wrong though ). Call them and ask.

The double lip is the one you want, but they are the only ones that can tell you why the first one is more exspensive,I doubt they sell many of the others and the demand is not much it comparison to the double lip. They may not even know why,but from exsperience I can tell you they are both the same material,it does not make any sense why they would charge more other than they do not sell as many.
You also may want to make sure that yours can use the double lip, some 2000 and all 2001 xjs cannot use the double lip seal, make sure yours can.

Take it out and see if there is an area on the bearing cap for it to fit in,the upper will not have the double lip only the botton half on the bearing cap. I would say yours can use a double lip,but I would just make sure first.

I replaced my 97 rear main sail with a single lip, I would have bought the double if I would have known. As long as it was by a reputable gasket company, I bought the fel pro one, make sure you have a torque wrench, and the newer ones their is a cradle you have to remove, about 8 bolts if I'm right.

i was working on mine(rear main seal) today and i just posted up on JF about this issue i came across...

notice my bearing cap doesnt have the groove in it for the "wings" on the gasket. my XJ is a 2000 and i need the more expensive seal as you can see from the pic.
