so after a recent wheeling trip with quite alot of water crossing and silty mud I now have a pretty loud whine that starts around 35mph and stays.
the front diff had water in it but the rear was fine. t case is clean.
it sounds like the rear diff but I'm not sure. took out front drive shaft and made no difference. with the shaft in in 4wd it made no difference.
it goes away when I let off the throttle.
the rear has been mostly gone through with new wheel bearings and seals. and the TRAC LOK has new clutches.
mostly curious if this can happen if its the Tcase. or is this only a rear diff thing. need to ditch the d35 anyways.
Not really sure why I'm posting, I already fixed the noise with a new stereo.

From what your saying it must be the rear D35 are you sure it didn't have water in it? When you drained and cleaned the rear did you refill with the proper fluid/weight for the Trac Lock. Keep looking is all I can say.

The front how ever was really full of water. Though fresh fluid here made no difference either.

Engine speed has nothing to do with it Aside from when pressing the throttle it makes the noise. If i let off or put it in neutral it goes away. And it only seems to startvat 25mph on my speedo. Which is about 35 with my tires

Don't know, but that is some of the nastiest crap in that differential I have ever seen. What all was in it did you feel of it and look closely for metal of any kind in it, were both just like this?
I would change the fluid again in a few weeks and make sure everything is clean if it were mine.
