Far out. So all is where it started and no damage has been done!

"I have adjusted the transmission cable." If you changed the kick-down and it didn't help you may want to put it back??

So I guess your going to check spark sometime when it's not running. Cruisers check for (even your new) cps sounds easy enough. .5 V AC from it, cranking.

I think when he wrote, "..it will crank up and run fine when cold..." some of us thought is was getting fuel OK. Maybe there IS an issue there, but checking spark is what's top on the list for now. Difficult for the OP to do alone, so far....

Yeah, originally it wouldn't crank when warm then not at all... well army exercise over, dropped the tank took it apart only to find it has a zj tank and/or pump...
The replacement I bought won't work and its too late to take back.

Has anyone heard of this before?
I will put up pics and search when I get to my computer.
Thanks for all the info/help guys.

In the close up you can see where it says ZJ and the other one is the comparison of the two completely different...

Idk man, those other pieces wont come off the old pump, to go on the new one? Cuz other than those lil do dads, it looks like the same pump to me. All i can see is ur pic tho. Anyway now that u got it out, put 12V to it and see if it'll pump. Just be careful and dont blow urself up or start a fire. If u can't get the other pieces off to go on the new pump take them both with you back to the parts house where u bought the new one. They oughta work with ya to get it right.

It's the same pump - you have to swap it into the assembly, and install new rubber isolators top and bottom.

And the "ZJ" you see does not indicate Grand Cherokee, it's just a letter code from the factory. ZJ/XJ/TJ etc was never used as an identifier mark on any parts.

thanks man, yeah that is what i did, i took that one and the old one back and we found the correct one/set-up. i thought about puttin a charge to it to test it, but working here at the house, i decided against it. the fumes were pretty bad.

oh ok, well now i know. I was really wondering, but it turns out they use the same bosch pump pretty much. I had to get a different package than that one cause that one had the odd screen on it that i couldn't use, and napa did have the correct one that came with new rubber seals and everything, so i swapped out and got'er done.

overall, after gettin everything back together, turnin the key on for a little bit then off a couple of times, it would crank up and run as long as i held the gas pedal, and would die immediately when i let off. i held it there for a few mins till it got warm and finally it caught up. then after that it would crank up all by itself... so today i will try to take her to get some gas and a little test drive and will update accordingly...

thanks again guys for all the info and help. hopefully she is good for a while....this downtime missed a couple events, so hopefully she's good to go and off the road...

Wellll wouldn't you know the F***** is still jerking going down the highway!! just started again last night, holding it bout 60 and it started to jerk...again it seems as though it couldn't decide to stay in OD or 3rd...

So what i am thinkin is that whatever it is probly caused the old fuel pump to die, it had 140,000 miles on it...sooo gotta go back and start to figure this out....

Bummer, sorry to hear that. Can you get codes with the key trick? Also as cpnwrench mentioned bad new cps's have been popping up. I tested mine last week just out of curiosity, (.3 ACV), inside of three minutes! I had no reason, just wanted to see.

Last year when mine was bucking, (and more), it turned out the signal from my ECU wasn't making it to some injectors. In my case it was wires grounding right under my nose.

yeah..well guess i am going to give all that a once over and double check/insure that something to that effect ain't happening here... I am kinda thinkin that whatever it is and that jumping probly just pushed the old pump off the edge...

also, don't think that i posted it before but i happen to get some video on the way to work of what it is doing...here recently after the new pump it hasn't been as constant or bad, but still doing it.
