i have the front of my roll cage done and i am not sure if there is a need to brace the bar that goes in between the hoop.
the tube is 1.5 od with .125 wall. i would rather not brace it because i am trying to keep the back seat usable and more bracing would make it cramped. as of now the bar is not in the way of the passengers and acts as a nice grab bar.

I do think trigulation between the top bar and the crossbar would be a good idea. If the passengers arent going to be crawling in through the front doors I dont see a problem here. It may block thier view out the front a bit but it is about thier safety.

like this?

i would have to buy more tubing but thats not a big deal... i just dont want to go overkill. i am not looking for multiple rollover protection, just something to keep me and any passengers from getting crushed if it ever happens.
which joints do you thick i should gusset? should use a plate gusset or tube?

Are you only using that in your cage design? Are you not putting in any front bars or halo ring?
I deally you want as much triangulation in your cage as possible, and you want to be able to spread the load around too. You can check out my webshots page and check out the 2 caged rigs I have and get an idea of what I have.
Also did you tie your cage into the "frame rails"? If not I would... it will keep the cage from punching through your floor boards in a roll.

The hardest part you will find is placing it so your head will not be bouncing off it, you could put it centered off the cross bar and then out to where the bend starts on the sides, that should keep it low enough to prevent it from being in the way of your head and still strong enough to support from folding side to side

i have plates on the floor that extend over were the frame rails are to keep it from punching through. they are 3/16

i am not doing anything forward. i may do something in the future but i still have the roof there so i dont think i need it.
i am not running trails were there is a high rollover risk. most of the stuff i do is in south jersey were its just mud and sand hills. my main reason for building it is to gain the structure and protection back that i lost from cutting the roof

ping pong: i checked your webshots and the work on the comanche is amazing. i would love to do something like that later on in my build but right now i dont have a tube bender and i want to get this thing on the road in the next couple weeks.
i am trying to keep this cage as simple as possible while still doing its job

IMO i would run the tubing from the top corners where the bends are cause to me i would think those would be the weakest points because that will prolly take more stress during the roll over and the tubing is allready a lil weaker because of the bend puting the stress in the tube. maybe what you could do is run the triangle from the top corners then run from the center of the hoop down to the back corners of your bed, that would also allow for a bad ***** spare tire mount too
