Some put a snorkle on for dusty conditions too. The intake area being up high gaters cooler, cleaner air for the engine, thus a better running engine.
i only put a snorkel on because i like to play in water and mud
but i've been on hold of doing anything, cause of a damn big rig! so my jeep limps around right now
and also gotta extend the breathers for the axles, transfercase, etc
but those won't cost anymore than the snorkel, 45 bucks

^ dude, relax if you dont like it, just say that, "i dont like it" you dont have to insult the work of an other person, he did something with his own hands, that a lil more than you posting a real negative post... what I mean is, there is better ways to say what that

I agree the setup is kinda on the "weird" side but maybe this wasn't his daily driver or he didn't care much for horsepower, which he probably loss some due to the maze of pipes.
When i do mine on the xj, it sure won't look like that
I gotta figure out a better way to get the snorkel on the passenger side cuz i know it'll block my vision on the driver's side unless it's a setup like the hummers, right against and below the window line.
